Remember pinwheels? Who doesn’t?! Pinwheels are fun, quirky, and incredibly easy to make. In this post, we’ll teach you how to make some custom pinwheels for your kids, your wedding, your home, or whatever decoration or DIY project you’re working on. You’ll see that making your own DIY pinwheels are not only fun, but freaking simple.

Here are 8 simple steps to making custom DIY pinwheels

Custom Pinwheels, Step 1: Start with a piece of paper, cut into the shape of a square. Any color or style of paper will do. Just make sure it’s perfectly square for best results.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 2: Fold your square from corner to corner like the image above. Make sure to line up the corners perfectly to ensure the perfect pinwheel.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 3: Make a small mark along the fold about a third of the way from the middle of the square. Feel free to grab a ruler to make sure it’s exactly one third of the way.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 4: Cut along the lines that were made when you folded the paper. Make sure to stop at your marks from step 3.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 5: Bring every point into the center of the paper and stick a pin through all four points to keep them secure. You’ll start to see the classic pinwheel shape coming together here.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 6: The head of the pin will now form the head of the pinwheel.

Custom Pinwheels, Step 7: Flip your new custom pinwheel over and stick the pin point into a dowel, popsicle stick, or other material to make the handle of the pinwheel

Custom Pinwheels, Step 8: You’re done! Time to enjoy your custom pinwheel with friends and/or family members. Remember to teach them how to make their own.
